FARN at COP30: contributions to climate justice from Latin America

From November 10 to 22, the 30th Conference of the Parties (COP30) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) will take place in Belém, Brazil. After a decade, the climate summit returns to Latin America — a region deeply affected by the climate crisis, yet essential in shaping just and sustainable solutions.

Throughout the two weeks of negotiations, discussions are expected to focus on crucial issues such as methane emission reductions, adaptation measures, climate finance, and a just energy transition, among others.

A delegation from FARN will attend COP 30. Pía Marchegiani, Deputy Executive Director; Camila Mercure, Climate Policy Coordinator; and Ariel Slipak, Research Coordinator, will be present in Belém . Franco Vedia from the Salinas Grandes and Laguna de Guayatayoc Communities, and Lorena Bravo, Werken of the Lof Campo Maripe and member of the Mapuche Confederation of Neuquén will join them in representation of Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities affected by lithium mining and fossil fuels in Argentina.
